Demo v2.0 Is Out!


Welcome Girldivers!

We released the 1.0 demo to a great response and we got a lot of feedback, so now it's time to show off what we've done preparing for the Early Access & 2.0 demo release.

We all pulled extra shifts, ate ungodly amounts of junk food, and hyper obsessed to get all these changes out the door so we hope you enjoy!

The Combat Update

The biggest feedback we received from demo v1.0 was that people loved the game but wished it was a bit faster. So we went over every system with a fine comb and asked "How can we make this better?".

Speed

The player and enemies now move much faster. Stamina takes less time to recover, grenades throw & explode faster and some gadgets deploy faster.

Weapon Rebalancing
  • Most weapons (including shotguns) have been made automatic.
  • Shotguns received a damage buff.
  • The semi-auto P-0 pistol was reworked into the "Sweet Sting" automatic pistol.
  • The P-1 revolver was reworked into the 3-shot "Sugar Shot" revolver.
New Weapons
  • Added the Rocket Launcher
  • (Full game) Added Pressure Sensitive Liberty Bombs
  • (Full game) Added Heart Seeker
Weapon Progression

Weapons used to have a level 2 version of themselves which would unlock after a certain planet. We scrapped this and decided to instead have more new weapons that you unlock as you progress.

Other Big Changes

  • Added Ultrawide support
  • Added Full Screen & Resolution settings
  • A new crewmember joins you on the bridge of the ship, ready to give out lewd events!
  • We completely scrapped the old tutorial and remade it from scratch. It's a night & day difference, and now you have Holo Girl to show you around ;)
  • Loading into levels is now twice as fast

*Removed all level 2 versions of weapons
*Reduced the reload time of all weapons
*Reduced the health of the titan beetle
*Reduced player stamina 'start recovery' time

==UI IMPROVEMENTS
*Major redesign of the main game UI
*Made player stamina & reload bar dynamic & follow the player
*Many UI text now use shadows to contrast better
*Added separate hotbar icons for weapons
*Made damage text appear/disappear more quickly
*Made so the player head icon at the top left of the ship screen changes depending on which character you're currently playing as
*Made the pelican dialogue popup wider so text is less squished
*Made menu background dims more consistent
*Completely remade the character swap UI (Miss Victoria in the ship)
*Various minor tweaks to the ship UI (i.e money now uses 0 format)
*Redesign of the story / events UI
*Made so weapons stats now display both their damage range & damage per second
*Made so weapon stats now display their stored ammo (not just mag capacity)
*Planets on the campaign screen now display their modifiers (Such as "Dark")
*Changed how campaign planets display their modifiers & rewards
*Weapon stats will now display if a weapon fires multiple projectiles
*Made so selecting a planet on the campaign screen will auto-select the first operation on that planet the player hasn't completed (if there are any)
*Completely remade the 'thanks for playing' screen
*Completely remade the ship deploy screen

==FIXES
*Fixed "Thanks for playing" not loading non-English fonts
*Fixed settings file not loading until after a language is selected (This meant 'music volume' wasn't being loaded until then)
*Made camera line up better with the player on the ship
*Fixed tutorial not unloading properly if the player managed to die 99 times (using up all their lives)
*Fixed tutorial displaying invalid map data when playing on a premade map (Now displays "No Signal")

==Misc
*Removed prefixes from weapons (which used to indicate if a weapon was level 1/2)
*Added story event for special mission character dialogue
*Added a separate Polish font (since the English font could not display Polish characters)
*Added support for 'Premade Maps' (Originally everything had to run off of the procedural generation system but this allows us to more easily make maps like the tutorial and the final planet)
*Added 2 achievements "Close Call" & "Murderer" (available in full game)
*Added a fade to the top of laser beacons
